Default "Network cable unplugged"

Have a desktop and laptop and wireless router. Have been using the laptop to access the internet from anywhere in the house for a while without any problems. However, a few days ago the laptop now says that the network cable is unplugged. However, I have no problem in getting on to the internet with the desktop so presume that that there is no problem with the cable.

I have unplugged and plugged it back in again but laptop still says the network cable is unplugged.

Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it.

Thanks

Adrian

It's nothing to worry about. I get this even with a cable plugged in - just ignore it.

Sounds like the settings on your laptop have got screwed as it thinks it connects via an ethernet cable, not a wireless dongle.

Easiest way to reset, is to run the LAN wizard (Control Panel/Network Connections/Set Up a Home or Small Office Network), and when it asks how it connects, choose the option that says connects "through another computer on my network"

This can also happen with 1394/Firewire ports

try the easy wat first

Remove message in the system tray that the network cable is unplugged.

Right click Start and select Properties.

On the Taskbar tab, click Hide inactive icons if it's not already checked.

Click the Customize button.

Scroll down to find the Local Area Connection: network cable is unplugged item (it will only appear here if it has displayed in the past).

In the dropdown box that appears when you click the item, select Always Hide. Click OK/Apply and then OK.
